Job Description
We require an Interim Transport Planning Engineer for a period of approximately 3 months to help our local authority client. You will;
- Assess the transport implications of planning proposals, making appropriate recommendations within the framework of government and council policies and guidelines
- Take responsibility for ensuring that all relevant County policies and procedures are adhered to and concerns are raised in accordance with these policies.
- Consider and carry out the assessment of highway/traffic/transport implications of planning applications and to recommend approval, possibly with conditions, or objection as appropriate, where necessary in discussion with senior officers.
- Assess the highway / traffic / transport implications of discharge of planning conditions.
- Provide pre-application advice on minor and major development sites in accordance with government and council guidance and policies and to consult other teams where appropriate.
- Provide the local planning authority with high quality responses to planning applications within the timescales and standards required by the Directorate.
- Ensure that all necessary improvements required for a development to take place are identified and that legal agreements are entered into to secure such improvements and to negotiate, where appropriate, off-site highway/transport works and/or financial contributions towards such measures.
- Represent the Highway Authority at meetings with developers, agents, councillors, local planning authority staff, other stakeholders and members of the public to discuss and advise as necessary on the highway, traffic, and transport aspects of development proposals in liaison with senior staff.
You will need to be;
- Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline, or equivalent level of experience
- Have an understanding of the planning / development control process and an understanding of and interest in transport/planning policy issues.
- You will need to have experience of working in a transport related field and/or the planning and development process.
