Organisational Development Consultant

6 Months+

Our local authority client is undertaking a major transformation programme which will have an impact on all residents, customers and staff of the authority. The Organisational Development Team has a major role in supporting this change ensuring their skills, values and behavioural frameworks are appropriate to support their residents in the future.  All activity plannned, managed and delivered by the team aligns to the future direction.

As OD Consultant you will report into the Head of Organisational Development and work closely with stakeholders at all levels (including senior leaders) as well as the wider HR community to plan, develop and lead the implementation of agreed organisation development strategies aligned to the business needs of the council.

You will be responsible for a portfolio of corporate work streams and associated projects intended to strengthen organisational effectiveness covering policy, process and behaviours. Project management is therefore an important aspect of the role.

Building organisational capacity is another key aspect of the role including developing and introducing corporate OD resources such as on-line toolkits, establishing networks and peer support as well as designing and delivery effective L&D programmes

Working with HR Business Partners and service leads, you will also act as an internal OD specialist to help services identify challenges and problems as well as design and implement appropriate OD interventions. Implementation may involve working with external providers.

You will need to have experience of operating at a senior level within HR and OD including in relation to key portfolio areas: change management, senior leadership, development and engagement.

  • Experience of designing and delivering a diverse range of OD and L&D projects.
  • Strong underpinning knowledge of OD theory and practice.
  • Skilled in stakeholder engagement, facilitation, presentation and coaching.
  • Experience of successfully commissioning OD and learning and development services and managing supplier relationships.
  • Ability to communicate and influence at all levels of the organisation
  • A proactive problem solver with highly developed critical thinking, interpretative and analytical skills. 
  • An organisational development practitioner qualification or management qualification (Level 5 or equivalent) or Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) membership.
